For the Bar: Bob is a respected leader in the Bar. Each time it entrusted him with challenges, his vision, judgment, and skill in working with people to bridge differences resulted in success. He guided the process of bringing the Bar’s policy manual into compliance with the State Bar Act. Using strong management and financial skills he directed the renovation of the State Bar building. As Chair, he energized and unified the Board. Together with the President, he moved the Bar to a policy of active engagement with the legislature and the Supreme Court on behalf of Texas lawyers.

For the Profession: Bob was elected managing shareholder by his firm when it faced significant challenges. At the end of his term, the firm voted to eliminate the time limit on the position and asked him to continue. A dozen years later, he is still at it, and the firm has grown and flourished. Bob is strongly committed to expanding diversity within the profession. Under his leadership his firm adopted a visionary family leave plan. Women comprise a majority of the management committee and one third of the shareholders, including four Texas top fifty women Super Lawyers. For years the firm has hosted an annual Minority Job Fair, attracting law school students from across the Gulf Coast. A former marathoner, Bob meets tough challenges with confidence and persistence.
